Hello everyone: I would like to start off by having you join us in paying tribute to a community icon who has helped redefine what it means to be recognized as a leader in Miami-Dade County. Our destination wouldn’t be what it is today without his commitment and vision. That person is the one-and-only Monty Trainer, and for six decades he has left an indelible mark on our community as a connector, a promoter, businessman and civic booster. He has used his tireless energy and channeled it to support numerous causes, committees and organizations ranging from the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District and the Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs Council to the New World School of the Arts and Virginia Key Advisory Board to name a few. He is probably best known for going above and beyond in promoting the Miami lifestyle with the feel-good vibes associated with the iconic Monty’s restaurant in Coconut Grove he once owned. He is the driving force behind the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, one of of the largest outdoor arts festivals in the nation, and continues to lead Dade Days missions to Tallahassee ─ we can all embrace these as strong examples of Monty’s civic commitment. A thanks to GMCVB board member Rodney Barreto who was among a GMCVB contingent and others in attendance to celebrate Monty as he received a special honor from county and city leadership in designating a street called “Monty Trainer Way” in Coconut Grove. And from celebrating one throughfare to another, please make some time for having fun on Ocean Drive during the Art Deco Weekend Festival on Miami Beach, Jan. 18-20... |
