Hello everyone, Excuse me for saying that I’m hoping we all embrace being “blue” not just today or this month, but every day. The color blue, associated with calmness and acceptance, is the primary color designated for autism, and on April 2, a number of our industry partners illuminated their respective structures in blue light to draw awareness to autism acceptance.
The Intercontinental Hotel, Miami Children’s Museum and other organizations turned several South Florida buildings blue to share the importance of the autism acceptance message and the Miami Marlins hosted a game this week in honor of World Autism Awareness Day and Autism Acceptance Month.
We couldn’t ask for better timing with our organization’s recent designation as a Certified Autism Center™ (CAC). The GMCVB was granted this designation by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). The CAC designation is awarded to organizations that have completed autism training to better understand, welcome and provide accessibility to autistic and sensory-sensitive visitors and their families. In the coming weeks and months we will be coordinating certification with a number of our key venues. More on that soon...

Join us May 17 for the H.O.T. Challenge – best-in-class golf, high-profile networking and great food and drink at the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Isle Resort & Spa – and the opportunity to meet the students you’re impacting through your generous support of the GMCVB’s Black Hospitality Initiative (BHI).
For more than 31 years, the GMCVB has organized the Hospitality Open Tournament, better known as the H.O.T. Challenge, to benefit the BHI. With your support, we’ve raised more than $3.5 million to fund scholarships for African American students studying hospitality at our local universities, many of whom work in our local tourism industry today. Take the H.O.T. Challenge and support our next generation of leaders.
