This newsletter consists of a sampling of GMCVB collaborations, business relief efforts and resources available on a local and national level. GMCVB 2023 Annual Meeting
Join GMCVB Chairman of the Board, Bruce Orosz, Incoming GMCVB Chair of the Board, Julissa Kepner, and GMCVB President & CEO, David Whitaker, as we share highlights from the past year and our plans for the year ahead, and recognize outgoing Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber. Meeting will take place on October 26, 3 - 5 p.m., at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Stay for a fantastic networking reception with some surprises! Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in Miami
What does Miami have in common with Hispanic Heritage Month? Miami has the largest melting pot of Hispanics in the country, totally influencing its culture and its Latin vibe throughout almost all of Miami’s intricate neighborhoods and streets!  Click here to explore the many Hispanic Heritage events, that include the cultures of Latin countries of Spain, the Caribbean, Central and South America,  happening in Miami! The GMCVB is a proud sponsor of the fourth annual Celebrating Milestones by Calle Ocho News. Make sure not to miss the City of North Miami's La Gran Fiesta - Una Noche Tropical and remember to explore the life and career of the legendary Queen of Salsa at the inaugural Celia Cruz Forever exhibit, on display at Tower Theater.

Miami Carnival 2023
Welcome to Miami Carnival, the ultimate cultural experience that combines the various elements of Carnival with the beauty of Miami. The Miami Broward One Carnival Host Committee, with its unwavering dedication and a deeply-rooted passion for Carnival, is gearing up to orchestrate one of the most significant cultural events of the year. The 39th Annual Miami Carnival Parade of Bands and Concert happens October 8, at the Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds. Attendees are  treated to abundant Caribbean and international cuisine, beverages, and arts and crafts, enhancing Caribbean culture and pride celebrations. Be part of the explosion of colorful, vibrantly clad parade revelers moving to the sounds of soca music. This year’s event is poised to be the biggest and most electrifying yet, with an array of activities and entertainment that will captivate attendees of all ages. Make sure to check out the additional events leading up to the big day. This event is hosted by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Celebrate Orgullo
Celebrate Orgullo, the first Hispanic and Indigenous LGBTQ+ festival in Greater Miami & Miami Beach, is back for its 13th edition on October 1-15. There’s no better way to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month and the destination’s diversity and history as an LGBTQ+ paradise. In 2021, Celebrate Orgullo (Spanish for “pride”) was named #4 among the top 14 most unique LGBTQ+ events around the world by TripSavvy.

Miami-Dade Officially Declares October 9, 2023, as Miccosukee Day
In honor and recognition of the strength and endurance of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners recently declared Monday, October 9, 2023, Miccosukee Day. Moving forward, the second Monday of every October will be known as Indigenous Peoples' Day in Miami-Dade County.

Miami Dragon Boat Festival

The 3rd annual Miami Dragon Boat Festival returns to Haulover Park on October 28  for an exciting day racing and all-ages fun. Great White North (GWN) Dragon Boat is proud of their joint partnership with Save Our Sisters Miami. A portion of the proceeds from the event will help support their program as they introduce breast cancer survivors to the sport. Submit Your Art Event for the Miami Art Week Guide & Map
Promote your upcoming exhibition, art event, or program on the Art of Black Miami Calendar of Events. If you are producing an art event that highlights the artistic and cultural landscape found in Miami's heritage neighborhoods and communities, celebrating the black diaspora, we want to hear from you! The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) has a dedicated website where your event can be marketed and promoted globally during Miami Art Week and beyond. Submit your event here, the deadline is Monday, October 16. The GMCVB reserves the right for all final approval and content uploaded to the website.

BHI Scholars students
Black Hospitality Initiative launches its Internship/Apprenticeship Program 

The Black Hospitality Initiative (BHI) Internship/Apprenticeship Program remains open all year for eligible applicants to apply. The Internship Program will ensure the Hospitality and Tourism industry in Greater Miami and the beaches have a workforce prepared to serve and lead sustainable careers. BHI hoteliers, tourism, and educational partners are ready to fill employment needs. Interns are assigned to positions where they learn multiple transferable skills in areas that match their training, educational backgrounds, and interests. Please share this link with your Human Resources Office or with those who are interested in workforce placement and careers in hospitality and tourism.

VMLY&R Unveils Inclusion Experience Advisory Council

VMLY&R, an American marketing and communications company, announced the launch of the Inclusion Experience (IX) Advisory Council, a strategic group that works on the critical need to redefine standards and raise the bar for inclusive teams, representative marketing, and more. Comprised of diverse leaders across a variety of industries from some of the nation’s largest and most well-known organizations, including our very own Senior Vice President, Multicultural Tourism & Development, Connie Kinnard. The council’s goals are to further evolve the narratives and practices around multicultural marketing, inclusive design, and experience strategy. The board is chaired by Myron King, chief integration officer at VMLY&R.
