June a Month of Culture, Celebration and Appreciation
June not only marks the beginning of the summer but also celebrates different cultures.  The month of June celebrates the African American musical influences during National Black Music Month, which is a huge part of our nations cultural fabric. It also honors Caribbean-American Heritage Month recognizing the significance of Caribbean people and their descendants in the history and culture of the United States. From a historical perspective, Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating June 19, 1865 – the day enslaved Black Americans in Texas were informed that slavery had been abolished two years earlier and that they were free, is now a day to celebrate Black history and culture. Greater Miami celebrates these important cultures that make up our heritage communities on our Multicultural Miami page.
