Visit Miami Beach Welcome Center Ribbon Cutting
 

Miami Beach Visitor Center Ribbon CuttingThis week I had the pleasure of attending the ribbon cutting ceremony of the City of Miami Beach Welcome Center with City of Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber, Miami Beach Chamber Board Chair Aaron Tandy, Immediate Past Chair Robin Jacobs and Jerry Libbin, President and CEO of Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce. I’d like to congratulate our partners in this new venture as the Miami Beach Visitor Center has reopened in its new location in the heart of South Beach at 100 16th Street. Powered by the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, these visitor centers enable us to welcome and serve our visitors with updated resources, and offer many services to our visitors including a multilingual concierge who can assist with transportation, reservations, tours and customized itineraries. GMCVB Attends Key DI Advocacy Summit
 
Destination organizations are recognizing their best and ultimate customers are their residents. The 2021 Advocacy Summit, hosted by Destinations International (DI), is designed to proactively lead this important industry initiative forward, helping destination organizations become a community shared value. GMCVB Promotes Miami at Travel & Adventure Shows
 
Travel Industry Sales, Multicultural Tourism and LGBTQ Tourism Teams are collaborating to promote Greater Miami and Miami Beach at the Atlanta Travel & Adventure Show October 16-17, and the San Francisco/Bay Area Travel & Adventure Show October 24-25.  The Travel & Adventure Shows are the largest consumer travel shows in the U.S.  
 
 
 
 
Communications Hosts Brazilian Blogger 
 
The Communications Team hosts Brazilian blogger and social media influencer Mari Vidigal from Ideias Na Mala (200K UVM) and IG @ideiasnamala (63K) October 29 - November 1, as she researches the destination, family attractions and heritage neighborhoods.
 
 
 
 
GMCVB & Partners Travel to WTM London 2021
 
Tourism Sales, Communications and Cultural Tourism Teams head to World Travel Market London November 1 - 3, leading a delegation of GMCVB hotel partners who’ll be meeting with eager-to-engage global travel buyers. The Communications Team will be connecting with UK and Irish media outlets, while Cultural Tourism meets with local tour operators to demonstrate the diverse arts and culture Greater Miami and Miami Beach offer.  
 
 
 
 
Communications Hosts Meetings & Incentives Press Tour
 
The Communications Team will be hosting a number of meetings trade publications including Recommend, Prevue, Smart Meetings, Facilities & Destinations and Northstar Meetings Group October 26-29. Media will have the opportunity to attend the GMCVB’s Annual Meeting, while also exploring the destination’s new and unique meeting and convention space offerings.
 
 
 
 
Travel Industry Sales Heads to EDGE Conference
 
Travel Industry Sales will be at the Travel Leaders EDGE Conference October 18-21 in Orlando. Travel Leaders EDGE is the consortia’s annual conference of educational workshops, networking and 150+ supplier trade show.  Travel Advisors and Agency Owners from across the US and Canada participate in this annual event which is expected to draw 1,000 attendees.
 
 
 
 
Communications & LGBTQ Marketing Host 'Couple of Men' Travel Bloggers
 
October 10-17, the Communications & LGBTQ Marketing Teams hosted Karl and Daan, German-Dutch gay travel bloggers exploring LGBTQ-friendly places to stay, eat and things to do while in Greater Miami and Miami Beach. (Combined average monthly reach of 520K, 50.8K IG followers.)

City of Miami Beach Presents ‘Aspen Ideas: Climate’
 
The Aspen Institute and the City of Miami Beach are partnering to present 'Aspen Ideas: Climate' March 3-7, 2022. The inclusive multi-day event will focus on global and local solutions to the climate crisis, bringing together policymakers, scientific experts, business leaders, innovators, artists, young leaders and the public. The event is expected to include panel conversations, one-on-one interviews and breakout discussions on climate solutions. Click here for more information.
 
 
 
 
Miami Beach Announces New Season of Free Films Under the Stars
 
Entering its 12th season, the Cinema Series at SoundScape Park returns featuring free weekly movies curated by the American Black Film Festival (ABFF). The eight-month series include movies such as “The Wiz” (1978), “Knives Out” (2019), “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” (1967), “The Outsiders” (1983) and more.  Films are projected onto a 7,000 square-foot wall; the state-of-the art system was upgraded this summer to provide a resolution four times greater than high definition. Small Business Training Workshop Launches Next Week
 
The Miami Bayside Foundation, partnering with the GMCVB’s Tourism Business Enhancement program, launches their Fall Small Business Training workshop October 19.  The 14-session training is geared toward small businesses interested in growing their venture and learning sustainable practices around entrepreneurship. Miami Beach Emergency Small Business Expense Reimbursement Grant Funding Still Available
 
Small businesses in Miami Beach are encouraged to apply now for a $20,000 emergency grant for rent, mortgage, utilities, payroll, and operating expenses incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic as funding is still available. To date, the Economic Development Department has awarded twenty (20) grants to businesses. The grants are awarded on a first-come, first-qualified basis. Interested businesses are encouraged to apply here.

The Historic Hampton House celebrates Legacy Day and Dr. Enid Pickney on Saturday, October 16, the noted historian and preservationist’s 90th birthday.  Dr. Pinkney’s contributions have been instrumental in preserving, honoring, and restoring the continued legacy of the Historic Hampton House. Spirit Airlines celebrated its first-ever takeoff from Miami International Airport (MIA) October 6 with service to nine destinations. The inaugural is the first of 31 Miami routes that will launch by January 2022, making Spirit MIA’s second largest carrier. Click here for more information.
 
 
 
 
Wynwood Walls Invites Local Artists to Submit Work for Miami Art Week
 
Wynwood Walls is inviting local artists to submit their work for a Miami Art Week 2021 showcase. Applicants can email their portfolios here; submissions will be accepted through October 30. One lucky muralist – to be announced November 15 via Wynwood Walls’ Instagram – will have a wall on 26th Street as their personal canvas throughout Miami Art Week.
