Arts & Business Council Introduces New Workshop Series
 
Join the GMCVB and The Arts & Business Council of Miami at Reimagine 2021: Miami Arts Marketing Project on January 26 at 10:00 a.m. This workshop series is designed to build skills for creatives, arts administrators and anyone seeking best practices in 2021. This virtual learning series provides six workshop sessions featuring nationally renowned keynote speakers, creative visionaries and local industry leaders including GMCVB Art of Black Miami Director, Petra Brennan, Director of LGBTQ Marketing, Dan Rios and Director of Cultural Tourism, John Copeland.  Sessions begin January 26. Miami Marlins Appoint First VP of Diversity
 
The Miami Marlins have appointed their first VP of diversity, equity and inclusion. Raquel “Rocky” Egusquiza will be the Executive Director of the Miami Marlins Foundation.  In her role, she will lead the Miami Marlins Foundation, with a focus on building strong partnership and engagement with the community. Egusquiza will act as a liaison to the organization’s public affairs and community relations divisions as she creates, implements, and brings to market initiatives across the Foundation’s focus areas. ScreenDance Miami Kicks Off 2021
 
Join Miami Light Project for ScreenDance Miami Festival 2021, an annual film festival celebrating the best of dance on film from around the world. This year’s official selections are being screened outdoors at venues including the North Beach Bandshell and the New World Center’s Projection Wall at Soundscape Park, and via online platforms on January 15, 19, 21, 22 and 23, 2021. The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County invites you to join them at a five-hour business prep workshop on January 28 to bridge purposeful connections, revise resumes, create cover letters and practice mock interviews. The workshop will be socially distanced with a capacity limited to 25 participants. Using the arts as the springboard for professional development, participants will leave the workshop feeling confident in their public speaking skills and sharing the professional stories that make each of them unique for the job. Zoo Miami Launches New Conservation Center
 
Zoo Miami has launched a new Conservation Action Center connecting guests with wildlife and nature conservation issues in Florida through storytelling and play. More than five years in the making, the zoo has transformed its former Dr. Wilde’s World building in the heart of Zoo Miami into an immersive center with the works of zookeepers, medical staff and researchers. The center offers interactive experiences, introducing guests to global and local conservation stories and how everyday actions at home impact nature’s ecosystem. Miami International Boat Show, Miami Yacht Show, and Superyacht Miami Join Forces
 
The National Marine Manufacturers Association and Informa Markets announced a landmark partnership creating the first joint production of three preeminent winter boat shows: Miami International Boat Show, Miami Yacht Show, and Superyacht Miami. Set to debut February 16- February 20, 2022 (President’s Day weekend), the joint event, which will carry the Miami International Boat Show name, will deliver a seamless experience for attendees and an economic boon to Miami. The on-land portion of the event will take place at the newly reimagined Miami Beach Convention Center, while in-water activities will be offered at Sea Isle Marina, One Herald Plaza and Island Gardens Deep Harbour on Watson Island. FIU Offers Women’s Hospitality Leadership Course
 
Florida International University (FIU) and the Women’s Hospitality Initiative (WHI) have introduced a groundbreaking academic course, “From the Classroom to the Boardroom: Leadership for Women in Hospitality.” The for-credit course offered Spring 2021 will examine the challenges and paths to success for women leaders in the hospitality and restaurant industries. Chef Michelle Bernstein, Chef Lorena Garcia, and Ernisha Randolph of Sweet Butter Hospitality are among the well-known list of speakers. Click here for more information.
 
 
 
 
MLK Jr. Annual Scholarship Breakfast Goes Virtual
 
The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Foundation will have their annual scholarship breakfast virtually on January 18 at 9:00 a.m. This year the breakfast will be headlined by Vice President Elect Kamala Harris and Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III, while honoring the life and teachings of the Civil Rights leader. Since U.S. Representative Frederica Wilson founded the program in 1993 the organization has paired about 10,000 at-risk students with mentors to steer them away from crime and violence. One Night in Miami Debuts Nationally
 
The Hampton House, a historic Green Book hotel, along with Amazon Studios hosted a VIP private screening of the directorial debut of Regina King's film, “One Night In Miami” that depicts Miami in 1964 when Muhammad Ali celebrated his heavyweight championship victory with Sam Cooke, Malcolm X and Jim Brown. The film is available for viewing on Amazon Prime and The Hampton House will do future programming around the movie plus other activities throughout 2021. Click here for more information.

South Florida Business Council Present the Southeast Florida Tourism Summit
 
GMCVB President & CEO William D. Talbert, III, CDME will be a featured guest speaker at the Southeast Florida Tourism Summit along with his counterparts Stacy Ritter, CDME, from the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau and Jorge Pesquera from Discover The Palm Beaches.  The three will address current issues affecting the industry at the local and state levels.  The panel discussion will be moderated by Heiko Dobrikow, Executive Vice President of the Las Olas Company and General Manager of the Riverside Hotel. GMCVB Tourism Industry Sales to Host American Airlines FAM
 
GMCVB Tourism Sales Team will host an American Airlines FAM group from El Salvador January 20–22. The group will consist of the owners and/or general managers of top producing wholesalers to Miami for American Airlines. The FAM participants will have an opportunity to see and experience different areas of Greater Miami during the visit. American Airlines currently operates two daily frequencies from San Salvador to Miami International Airport with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
 
 
 
 
GMCVB Multicultural Tourism Hosts Virtual Conversation: Building Unity & Creative Ecosystems
 
Join the GMCVB Multicultural Team on January 22 at 6:00 p.m. for another creative virtual conversation as we explore creating artworks that build on a distinctive combination of culture, commerce, and design. Art talk panelists will include Fiber Artists, Xenobia Bailey and Evelyn Politzer, moderated by Rosie Gordon-Wallace, Founder, Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator & Strategic Art Consultant. The virtual event will include a special performance by classical violinist, Marcia Anderson. This art talk is presented in partnership with The Links Incorporated, Greater Miami Chapter. GMCVB Travel Industry Sales to Host Travel Advisor FAM
 
GMCVB Travel Industry Sales Team will host a group of Greater Miami-based travel advisors for a FAM January 22.  The Travel Advisors will tour Vizcaya Museum & Gardens as well as complete site visits of five Miami Beach hotel properties.  These advisors are seeing an increased interest in local hotels for their clients based in the area and other states.
 
 
 
 
GMCVB Convention Sales Hosts Hotel Industry Mixer
 
Convention Sales Committee Chair, Julissa Kepner and Vice President of Convention Sales, Sonia Fong will host a Networking Mixer for hotel General Managers and Directors of Sales on January 21.  The event will take place at the THesis Hotel Miami and will allow the GM’s and Directors to network with their peers and learn more about GMCVB sales initiatives. Kimpton Hotels Host MLK Jr. Art of Black Activation
 
In honor of Martin Luther King Day, Kimpton Group Hotels (EPIC Miami, Palomar South Beach, Surfcomber and Anglers), will pay homage to the holiday by hosting local artist pop-up events. Each hotel, in partnership with the GMCVB’s Art of Black Miami program, will spotlight one local Black artist by displaying several curated pieces in its lobby along with biographical and inspirational information about the displayed artist. Participating artists include Marcus Blake, Zeek Mathias, Annick Duvivier and Sophia Wong. The art will be displayed through January 19 (through February at the Surfcomber) and is open to the public.
