Virginia Key Beach Park Celebrates its 75th Year with Statewide Historical Recognition |
|
Virginia Key Beach Park was founded on August 1, 1945 as Miami’s only beach for Black residents and people of color. Due to resolutions passed in the Florida House and Senate in March, August 1st is now officially Historic Virginia Key Beach Park Day. Given COVID-19 restrictions, the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust will hold an online celebration which includes a virtual film exhibition as well as a cocktail reception on August 8th. Virtual Feasts with Beasts |
|
On August 28th from 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. join South Dade's Zoo Miami Foundation’s first virtual Feast with the Beasts. Everyone is invited for free to this unique zoo virtual experience complete with the one and only Ron Magill as its host. Get ready for wild animal encounters and surprise celebrity appearances by: Gloria Estefan, Shaquille O’Neal, KC from KC and the Sunshine Band, Nestor Torres and many more. Viewers will also be able to enjoy a host of interactive rooms that will include chef demonstrations, mixology sessions by Bacardi, DJs, entertainment, and much more! The American Black Film Festival will showcase Miami Virtually |
|
The 24th annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) will take place Virtually online August 21-30, 2020 at abff.com and will showcase Miami through a virtual Film Familiarization Tour. The ABFF Online Edition will continue the tradition of the live festival, featuring the best of independent black cinema, studio premieres, conversations and panels, business of entertainment seminars, along with virtual networking events. The ABFF will be back to Miami Beach for their 25th Anniversary.. |

Miami Spice and Miami Spice To Go Programs are happening throughout the Summer |
|
As part of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau – Miami Shines Marketing Program, Miami Spice aimed at enticing locals and visitors alike to dine(outside seating) and stay in Miami and Miami Beach will now run from June 1st - September 30th. Miami Spice showcases diverse cuisine featuring three-course meals at the top eateries in the city reasonably priced at $25 for lunch/brunch and $39 for dinner. New Hospitality Industry Grant Program for Restaurants and Non-Home Based Caterers |
|
Miami-Dade County commissioners approved a $30 million grant program to boost the county's small restaurants. The Hospitality Industry Grant Program authorizes establishment of a County Attorney $35,000,000.00 business grant program for hospitality industry relief from the 2020 Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act Coronavirus Relief fund, to provide financial support and assistance to local independently owned and operated restaurants and non-home based caterers impacted by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. |

DVCAI Showcases the Work of Miami and National Artists in Charlotte, NC |
The diversity of Miami artists and their works will be represented at the Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator’s exhibition at the National Historic Museum Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts + Culture. The exhibition, Inter|Sectionality: Diaspora Art From The Creole City is curated by DVCAI’s founder Rosie Gordon-Wallace and features the work of twenty-five artists including local and national representation. |

The Marlins Host South Florida Black History Virtual Celebration |

Please join the Marlins for a virtual pre-game event celebrating South Florida’s Black History on Sunday, August 16th at 12:00PM as part of Major League Baseball’s recognition of the Negro Leagues‘ 100th Anniversary. Programming will feature conversations with prominent figures within the South Florida Black community and a Marlins and Negro Leagues focused Trivia Challenge with representatives from several minority owned businesses. Miami Carnival Caribbean Festival Goes Virtual |
|
For the first time in 35 years, the Miami Carnival will be hosted as a virtual experience from Thursday, October 8th – Sunday, October 11th, 2020, as a way to flatten he curve amid the COVID pandemic. Celebrating Miami, the Caribbean, music, pageantry, and Caribbean culture over this multi-day experience, the Miami Carnival is one of the most anticipated Caribbean Carnivals held annually, draws over 75,000 attendees, and contributes to the South Florida area's economic impact during Columbus Day weekend. |
