GMCVB Spotlights Chef Chris Valdes as a ‘Miamian Who Shines’ for Providing Thousands of Meals to the Community During Covid-19
 
The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) recognizes Miami native, Food Network Star Finalist and Florida Dairy Farmers Ambassador, Chef Chris Valdes who for the past few months, has collaborated with several community organizations including Flipany, Farm Share, and the Kiwanis, to feed the most vulnerable in our community - seniors, families in need, single moms, and first responders - during the COVID 19 crisis. Through these strategic partnerships, Chef Chris has donated over 20,000 meals to the community and his efforts have been recognized with wide-ranging local and national media coverage.  Having championed many philanthropic causes including the American Liver Foundation, Amigos for Kids, Ronald McDonald Charities, and Chapman Partnership for the Homeless, Chef Cris Vales continues his mission to make an impact in his hometown by helping serve those most in need. Congratulations to Chef Valdes for being a shining example of Miami’s best in the community! GMCVB President & CEO to Participate in Aventura Marketing Council Chamber of Commerce’s July Zoom Meeting 
 
William D. Talbert III, CDME, GMCVB President & CEO, will be speaking at the upcoming Aventura Marketing Council Chamber of Commerce’s July Zoom Meeting on July 16. Mr. Talbert will talk about the “reopening” benchmarks for Miami-Dade County as well as highlight the “Miami Shines” Tourism Recovery Program which is a marketing campaign centered around the many people, places, neighborhoods and experiences that “shine” in our destination.
 
 
 
 
Food Rescue US Launches Distribution Series in Little Haiti
 

Food Rescue US, a volunteer-driven organization committed to reducing food waste and food insecurity in America, is launching their next food distribution series in Little Haiti with food prepared by Naomi’s Garden Restaurant located at 650 NW 71st St. With funding from The Miami Foundation, Food Rescue will be distributing meals from 3 to 5 p.m. on the following dates: July 11, July 15, July 18, July 29 and August 1 via no contact drive-up or walk-up. The GMCVB Multicultural Tourism & Development department hosted a virtual Master Class with Liberty City born world-renowned motivational speaker, Mr. Les Brown and his daughter Dr. Ona Brown, for a power hour of possibility and hope. As a country we are experiencing some precarious times, now more than ever we need to be motivated to overcome adversity and find the greatness within. The Miami Bayside Foundation Facilitates Virtual Small Business Training
 

On July 7, the Miami Bayside Foundation kicked off a virtual edition of its postponed spring Entrepreneurial Small Business Training. The 10-session workshop is designed to help small businesses sharpen their entrepreneurial skills in order to grow and become sustainable. It is facilitated by industry professionals with a guided business-oriented syllabus to help entrepreneurs successfully thrive, and specifically for this series, consisted of businesses that previously signed up in the spring. At the end of the training, businesses can participate in a business pitch presentation to lenders for funding opportunities. The Miami Bayside Foundation Small Business program is supported by various partners including the GMCVB’s Tourism Business Enhancement Initiative with the mission to advocate, support and strengthen the economic sustainability and access of multicultural communities as well as heritage-related businesses within Greater Miami.  For more information visit MiamiBaysideFoundation.

 
 
 
 
Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center Deploys First-ever Mobile Resilience Pod, Supports Goals of Resilient305 Strategy
 
The Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center, in partnership with Miami-Dade County, deployed the first-of-its-kind Community Resilience Pod. The Pod – which will play a critical role addressing local food insecurity – was debuted and activated to raise awareness of resilience issues and will continue to be activated in different communities throughout the County. Transformed from a 40-foot shipping container donated by the MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) Foundation, this versatile, interactive and mobile space will bring residents solutions to local threats, such as extreme heat, flooding, sea level rise, food security and pandemics. Visitors will find – through physical and digital displays – location-specific risks and guidance, resources and tools to be prepared, get connected and take action. Click here to learn more.
 
 
 
 
GMCVB’s Miami Eats Program Winner of Time In Award for Favorite Grassroots Relief Effort
 
This year, Time Out Miami debuted the Time In Awards—a reader-voted celebration of the best responses to the 2020 lockdown in Miami. The list of nominees paid tribute to the people and things that have done so much to enhance Miamians’ lives at home over the past couple of months. The GMCVB’s Miami EATS program was a proud winner in the ‘Favorite Grassroots Relief Effort’ category. The program promotes takeout and delivery offers for hundreds of restaurants throughout Greater Miami and the Beaches.

Take Part in the Visual Collective - I Remember Miami
 
The Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College (MOAD MDC), in collaboration with the Miami Book Fair, invites everyone to take part in the great Spanish artist Dora García’s new public artwork "I Remember Miami," a participatory work that invites the public to come together in a virtual collective space of memory and connection to celebrate the experience of living in our city. While we remain in our homes, I Remember Miami asks us to recall small, specific details of spaces in the city that have made lasting impressions on us and to record ourselves as we narrate our memories of being in those spaces. Participants may also submit photographs that relate to their memories. The artist will collect the audio files and photographs to compile a polyvocal archive of memories. Miami-Dade County Parks Kicks Off Park and Recreation Month
 
This July join Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces, as they observe Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). Public parks and open spaces have the power to revive our spirits and minds. Therefore, we would love to help others rediscover the power of parks with the help of your testimonial. Share why you enjoy our parks, or why they are important to you. Miami-Dade County Parks will be accepting both written and video testimonial submissions to share every week in July on their Facebook and Instagram pages. Hard Rock Stadium Celebrates GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation
 
Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens was among the latest facilities to secure GBAC STAR™ facility accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a Division of ISSA. The gold standard of prepared facilities, GBAC STAR provides third-party validation that organizations are undertaking thorough cleaning, disinfection, and infection prevention strategies. Hard Rock Stadium, a global entertainment destination and home to the Miami Dolphins, was the first public facility to commit to earning GBAC STAR accreditation. The stadium successfully completed 20 program elements with specific performance and guidance criteria to earn accreditation.
