Will and Mac Osborne Shine While Responding To the Needs of the Community During COVID-19 |
The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) recognizes Will and Mac Osborne, Founders of Meals For Heroes Miami as they Shine Bright in our community. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Will and Mac Osborne founded Meals for Heroes Miami, a not-for-profit, donation-based organization created to address two complementary objectives: feed the stressed and exhausted first responders risking their lives daily and provide revenue and protect jobs at restaurants throughout Miami-Dade County. Later partnering with the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau through its Miami Eats program, Meals for Heroes Miami has provided thousands of meals to hospital emergency rooms and ICUs, EMS and first responder teams, and COVID-19 mobile testing centers with fresh meals cooked and prepared by local Miami restaurants and caterers. Donations can be made at MealsforHeroesMiami. Congratulations to Will and Mac Osborne for being a shining example of Miami’s best in the community! If you know someone who is “shining bright”, then you may nominate them at media@gmcvb.com. GMCVB Achieves Reaccreditation with Distinction from Destination International (DI) |
After a year-long process, the GMCVB was reaccredited with distinction by Destination International (DI) through its prestigious Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP). DMAP evaluates Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) on a variety of standards including governance, finance, management, human resources, technology, visitor services, group services, sales, communications, membership, brand management, destination development, research/market intelligence, innovation and stakeholder relationships. Of more than 6,000 DI members and partners from nearly 600 destinations worldwide, fewer than 250 meet the rigorous criteria for accreditation, and less than 30 are recognized with distinction, illustrating an organization’s even greater standards of excellence and commitment to industry stewardship. |

Florida Legislation Passes Historic Virginia Key Beach Park Day |
Celebrating the 75th anniversary of Historic Virginia Key Beach Park as a community space and historic landmark, the Florida House of Representatives and Senate recently passed a resolution proclaiming Saturday, August 1, and each August 1st thereafter as, “Historic Virginia Key Beach Park Day.” Once designated a “Colored Only Beach” when it officially opened in 1945, the old Virginia Key Beach Park is the preeminent gathering place for all marginalized communities and social classes who live and visit the beach park. Though once a recreational space where the Black community at-large was allowed to gather, commune and create the conditions for solidarity necessary for a civil rights movement to flourish, the park continues to forge a sense of community through compassionate negotiation, experiential activations and creative communication between black and non-African American societies. For more information on Historic Virginia Key Beach Park call 305-960-4600 or visit VirginiaKeyBeachPark. |

COVID-19 has impacted us all! However, the disadvantaged have had their existing challenges escalate due to limited resources and higher stress levels. Underprivileged children often are forgotten in complicated circumstances like we are currently facing. Please help us show them that we care, and they are not forgotten. Join VKBPT in providing fun-filled backpacks with summer essentials and fun items. The process is simple - you make a donation or purchase items to fill a backpack, drop items off at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, and we pack items in a backpack. We encourage you to include a personal note. Cash donations help us also to provide groceries for their family. Backpack item drop off days and times are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Contact VKBPT at sforeman@miamigov.com to let us know you are coming. |
