Kristin Kitchen Shines Bright While Housing the Homeless at the Dunns Josephine Hotel in Partnership with Miami-Dade Homeless Trust During the Covid-19 Pandemic

The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) recognizes Hotelier Kristin Kitchen as someone who Shines Bright in our community.  The homeless community was harshly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and with so many in need, the Dunns Josephine Hotel in Historic Overtown partnered with the Miami-Dade Homeless Trust to house some of those most vulnerable in our community, providing them with a place to stay, food and other essentials.  Dunns Josephine is scheduled to accommodate the homeless until there is no longer a need and with guests typically arriving wearing only the clothing on their back and little else, the hotel is seeking donations of basic items and a GoFundMe page has been set up for cash donations. Please click here to learn more about the Dunns Josephine Hotel. Congratulations to Kristin Kitchen for being a shining example of Miami’s best in the community! If you know someone who is “shining bright” by going above and beyond during this time to give back to the local community, then you may nominate them at media@gmcvb.com. YWCA South Florida Announces 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge

The 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge is based on the notion that it takes 21 days to change a habit. It was introduced last year by YWCA Cleveland and the impact and success with the campaign has become a model for YWCAs nationwide. The YWCA South Florida is presenting the challenge to South Florida to encourage discussion, action and change in our community. The challenge is designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership. Participants are presented with daily challenges via email that invite them to choose one of three options such as: Reading an article, listening to a podcast or reflecting on personal experience.  Participation in an activity like this helps us to discover how racial injustice and social injustice impact our community, to connect with one another, and to identify actionable ways to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination.  Visit YWCA-Miami for more information, about the challenge.
