|
From January-October 2019, international passenger arrivals at Miami International Airport (MIA) increased by +3.1% compared to the previous year. Domestic passengers increased by +1.2% compared to the same period in 2018, contributing to total passenger arrivals with an increase of +2.2%. |

GMCVB President & CEO William D. Talbert III, CDME was selected to serve on the Board of Trustees of Florida TaxWatch, Florida’s premier government watchdog organization. The selection was announced at the organizations’ 40th Annual Meeting, at which Mr. Talbert was among other illustrious members and stakeholders in attendance. The three-year term begins January 1, 2020. |

GMCVB Unveils World Cup 2026 Host City Logo at Soccerex USA in Aventura |
|
GMCVB Chief Operating Officer Rolando Aedo alongside Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, unveiled the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ host city candidate logo and website Miami2026, kicking off a campaign to position Greater Miami as a premier host destination for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ games. The awareness campaign will generate excitement and educate residents on the value of bringing the FIFA World Cup™ 2026 to the local Greater Miami community. In addition to taking part in the opening ceremonies, GMCVB Director of Sports & Entertainment Jose Sotolongo, participated in a 2026 FIFA World Cup™ host city candidate panel moderated by former United Bid Committee President John Kristick, and featured representatives from Orlando, Atlanta and Houston. |

Museum of Graffiti Art Opens in Wynwood Arts District |
|
The Museum of Graffiti, a new contemporary art museum and the first institution of its kind to present the history of the global graffiti art movement, opened its doors to the public during Art Week, in the heart of Miami’s vibrant Wynwood neighborhood. The museum encompasses a permanent exhibition, two feature exhibition galleries, a rotating site - specific immersive installation and a gift shop all of which will invite collaboration and conversation. Luminosa Chinese Lantern Festival at Jungle Island |
|
In partnership with Zigong Lantern Group and China Lantern International, Jungle Island invites visitors from around the globe to marvel at a nighttime jungle filled with giant lanterns, up lit by over 1 million LED lights and hand-crafted out of colorful silk by Chinese artisans, now through January 8, 2020. The Chinese Lantern Festival marks the end of the Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, and lanterns are believed to symbolize people letting go of their pasts and celebrating a new future. The experience spans across 13 acres and features four different themes that portray the diverse fauna and wildlife found at the iconic attraction in addition to emblematic scenes around the Miami destination: Birds and Bloom, Biscayne Bay, Jungle Trail and Miami Style. The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) has appointed Sindy Bohada as Convention Sales Manager for the West Coast Market for both Corporate and Association Business. Over the last decade in the travel industry, Bohada has worked with a variety of key companies, including her most recent role as Sales Manager for Hampton by Hilton Miami Beach where she continuously surpassed revenue goals. Within her role at the GMCVB, Bohada will build new client relationships, aggressively explore data mining opportunities, develop individualized approaches and plans for corporate and association business, and book business. |

The Communications Team will have several appointments with key media in each city to educate them on the latest developments in Miami. In addition, the Communications Team will invite and host media during joint in-market GMCVB events. |

GMCVB Travel Industry Sales partners with American Airlines on Sales Mission to Aruba and Curacao |
|
GMCVB Director for Travel Industry Sales Debra Lee will partner with American Airlines on a Sales Mission to Aruba and Curacao December 10-12. The delegation will promote Greater Miami and the Beaches and American Airlines twice-daily service from Aruba to Miami and from Curacao to Miami, to travel professionals in both countries. Oranjestad, Aruba and Doral, FL signed a sister-city agreement in June 2016. |
